When a global technology company prepared to open a new office in Salt Lake City, Utah, they required a complete, high-performance structured cabling system (SCS) capable of supporting hundreds of users, enterprise WiFi, security devices, and the network core. They turned to Protek Systems to design, deliver, and commission the entire solution.
This project demonstrates Protek’s expertise in full-scale office deployments, combining Panduit and CPI infrastructure with meticulous engineering, clean execution, and thorough documentation.
Project Overview
Protek Systems was engaged to deliver a new Structured Cabling System build across three primary areas of the building:
Basement AV spaces
4th Floor (MDF/data centre)
5th Floor (IDF/distribution)
The scope covered everything from racks and fibre backbone installation to horizontal cabling, WiFi, CCTV, patching, and final documentation.
Building the Network Core – 4th Floor MDF

The heart of the network was constructed inside the Main Distribution Frame on the 4th floor. Protek supplied and installed a complete CPI server rack and cable management ecosystem, including:
CPI 84” adjustable server rack
Double-sided and single-sided vertical cable managers
Horizontal cable managers front and rear
CPI universal cable runway system
Grounding and bonding kits
Rack shelving, spool kits, anchor kit, and accessories
2× Panduit P36G18G PDUs
Full hardware and cage-nut kits
The result was a clean, scalable, and well-managed network core capable of supporting the client’s switching platform and future growth.

Optimising the 5th-Floor IDF

On the 5th floor, Protek refurbished the existing rack, restoring and reusing the original 2-post frame and vertical cable managers. Enhancements included:
Additional Panduit PDUs
New horizontal cable management
Full patching hardware
This ensured consistency across both floors and a seamless experience for network operations teams.
Fibre Backbone Between MDF and IDF
Connecting the two main network rooms required a high-performance, single-mode fibre backbone.
Protek installed:
24-core Panduit OS2 indoor-armoured fibre cable
Rack-mount Opticom enclosures (MDF & IDF)
Fusion-spliced fibre trays
LC duplex OS2 adapter panels
Patch cords, pigtails, and LC-LC jumpers across a full range of lengths
This provided a resilient and future-proof backbone built to support present and next-generation bandwidth demands.
Horizontal Cabling – High-Density Office Deployment
Across all office areas, Protek installed a structured cabling system built primarily on Panduit Cat6 and Cat6A.

Basement AV Spaces
4x data outlets
4th Floor Office Space
102× general data outlets (Cat6 with blue modules)
16× camera outlets (Cat6 with green modules)
20× WiFi access point outlets (Cat6A with grey modules)
5th Floor Office Space
98× general data outlets
23× camera outlets
20× WiFi outlets
Every cable was terminated, tested, labelled, and certified, ensuring full compliance with industry standards and manufacturer guidelines.
Rack & Stack Services
Protek provided complete rack-and-stack services for the client's equipment, including:
2× Meraki gateways
16× network switches
1× Dell server
40× WiFi access points
The project also included a large patch-cord allowance using Panduit’s 28AWG range across Cat6 and Cat6A, colour-coded for data, camera, and WiFi services.
Project Management & Documentation
Protek delivered a full SCS design package from concept through to as-built documentation, including:
Structured cabling system design
Ongoing project management
As-built drawings
Final documentation pack
This ensured absolute clarity for the client’s facilities and IT teams and provided a strong foundation for future support.
A Reliable and Scalable Infrastructure for a Growing Office
The Salt Lake City office now benefits from a fully managed, high-performance network infrastructure engineered to support:
High-density user environments
WiFi-first networks
CCTV and security systems
IoT and smart-office integrations
A fibre backbone ready for long-term growth
Protek’s combination of technical expertise, disciplined engineering, and adherence to global best practices ensured the project was delivered to an exceptional standard.
